I have re-arranged the website so that the newest announcement from the Board appears “here”. Many of you have been missing it on the left hand column under “recent messages”. You can still get to the “about us” on the left. If you haven’t been seeing these messages please scroll down and read them, at the bottom use the arrow to scroll back in time to other messages. Sometimes we also have sent them in an email, but we are trying to get away from that. It is your responsibility to check the website often (a few times a week).
New Schedules are available through the TABLE of CONTENTS or go to Section 3 (Reg) or 4 (Alt) directly. Please check out new items on Table of Contents. Please check out new links, like funny God Tube Videos in Homeschool Misc. on Right column. Also see new outings and field trip ideas. Do you have any more?
If you have a question, comment or problem call Dawn or email leaphomeschool@gmail.com

Very Good News:
Last week, both chambers of the New York legislature, the Senate and the Assembly passed the bill to restore special services to disabled homeschoolers. A big thank you goes to all those who took the time and did the work in contacting your legislators and others and in keeping this matter in your prayers.
The power of your prayers is especially noteworthy. The Assembly version of the bill was slightly different than the Senate version (for a bill to become law, it must pass both chambers in identical form). It was also judged to be a slightly “cleaner” and better bill. However, because the State Education Department (SED) supported the Senate version as well as for a variety of other political reasons, we were pushing for the Assembly to make their bill identical to the Senate version. However, in the gracious providence of God, the SED gave their blessing to the Assembly version as well, and the Senate changed their bill to match the Assembly version. The Assembly version passed both chambers. To God Be the Glory!
The bill now goes to the Governor’s desk for his signature. Two items for continued prayer: 1) that the Assembly would send this to the Governor in a very timely manner. The Assembly version has a large amount of discretion on when to actually send the bill to the Governor. Often political gamesmanship is exhibited in how quickly or slowly a passed bill is forwarded to the Governor. While we don’t have any specific information about possible delays for this bill, please pray that it would be quickly sent to the Governor’s desk; and 2) please pray the Governor would indeed sign it. Again we don’t have any specific information on Governor Patterson’s intent, but this is not a done deal until it receives the Governor’s signature.
If it is felt that further actions (beyond prayer) would be helpful, we will send out and alert. In the meantime, please keep praying and rejoicing in the great progress so far.

As you may have seen in your Clover Leaf, there are many opportunities to volunteer through the 4-H program. Please let Nancy know if you and your family would like to participate in or lead one of these events.
BEFORE the Fair
Work nights June 5th or June 17 beginning at 7 p.m.
Club Work Days – July 1 or July 11 – 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (any number of hours between)
DURING the Fair
Judging Day Help – July 15 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (any number of hours between)
Fair Day Help – (age 8-19) July 15-July 28 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. (any 4 hour shift) (max 4 members/1 adult per shift)
Cloverbud or 4-H Club Action Booth during the fair, noon to 8 p.m.
Maybe working, cleaning and running around isn’t your speed. How about your child and a group of fellow 4-H’ers (any age) being the entertainment at the fair. You sign up for 4 hours (set up, display time, and clean up) for any day that the fair is open. The Club has done these in the past and entertained crowds with short comedy skits and dramas. You may do plays, skits, public presentations, hands-on learning exhibits, etc. You must just keep something going at your booth for 4 hours. It may be a 15 minute program that repeats over and over again… We have won awards at the County Fair and been invited to the State Fair twice. If you are interested in planning and running such a program, see Nancy.
If you aren’t already signed up for e-alerts from HSLDA, please do so. You get the latest info on what is going on in the Homeschool Community and prayer requests from around the world and need for calls to your elected officials to see that our voice is heard.
You do not have to have an account number or be a member, this is a free courtesy from HSLDA.

Registration & Dates
The 2008 PSAT/NMSQT test dates are Saturday, October 18, 2008. You must sign up for the PSAT/NMSQT at the high school guidance office and pay a fee (minimum $13, plus may add admin fee). This test is administered by high schools, not through test centers. Online registration for the PSAT/NMSQT is not available.
Also, ask the guidance office for a copy of the Official Student Guide to the PSAT/NMSQT to help you prepare before test day.
Home-Schooled Students are recommended to register in June on the collegeboard page.
http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/psat/reg/homeschool.html
The PSAT/NMSQT score report is sent directly to your home address. On the test day, when completing the basic information on the answer sheet, be sure to enter your state’s home school code in the “school code” section. The test supervisor will provide this for you, but try to remember to bring it with you. You will also need to speak to Ara about getting a LEAP ID card.
These are excepts from Collegeboard.com Please go there yourself and familiarize yourself with the site, you will begin to visit it a lot. Go ahead and sign up for the “My Organizer” you can get questions of the day sent to you from now until you take your final actual SAT. You can view your child’s answers to question after the test if you pay for that service (well worth it) and sign up for an online course. It is $69 but Alyssa qualified for a $1000 scholarship after using it for her second time round. Wow $1000 for $69, good bargain.
My suggested schedule of test taking based on many advise pages I’ve read:
PSAT – latest in fall of 11th grade. (may take earlier for practice of the practice, but will need it again in fall of 11th to qualify for NMSQT- good luck!)
get results by Dec, have until spring to study.
SAT – take the true SAT in Spring of 11th grade.
get results in summer have “all summer” to study for 2nd try at SAT’s
SAT – take for a second and final time in fall of 12th grade. (any more than 2 times in not cool to colleges)
get results just in time to apply for scholarships and colleges by Christmas
Any questions, call Dawn or see Collegeboard.com yourself.
Dear LEAP Members,
Have you all gotten your SAT testing scores back. Well, most of us have. If you haven’t, please contact Karen and let her know.
