“Operation Christmas Child” a project of Samaritan’s Purse

The season of Thanksgiving and Christmas will soon be upon us. What better way for your family to give to the needy then to put together a shoe box for child. Don’t know what Operation Christmas Child is all about? Well, please click on the link below and let Franklin Graham (Rev. Billy Graham’s son) tell you about it.

Samaritan’s Purse Video

Our host church, First Assembly of God, is one of many National drop off centers. They will be collecting boxes from November 17 thru November 23. Please plan on bringing a box or two or three… with you when you come for Competition Night on the 22nd. The Honor Bound Motor Cycle club will just be finishing up packing up crates of boxes to be shipped all over the world.

Many families have each child do a box. The website has a list of appropriate gifts and ones that are not allow. Please review the list. There are also labels that you can print off the website or they are available in the foyer of First Assembly of God.  Don’t forget to add a personalized note from your family and a photo.  Many families do hear back from the gratetful child, it is very exciting to see where your box will end up.

October 31

Well, October 31 is soon approaching.  Just to let you know, the host church does not recognize any holiday on this date.  They ask that no costumes are worn at their facility.  They do celebrate the Lord’s Harvest and have a Harvest Fun Night Party out at the Tri-State Family Christian Camp in Port Jervis, NY.  All are invited.  This is open to the public.  Please call 845-856-1826 for more information or to let us know you are coming.  We have goodie bags for each child PreK-5/6th grade who attends and we want to make sure we have enough.  The program is not geared toward teens but they are welcome to come and hang out.

Teacher Schedule Update

The Regular Day Teacher Schedule was update, AGAIN.  This is a small change of 3rd and 4th period Nursery teachers switching places.  This needed to take place, because parents are still not picking up their nursery age children right after classes end and the 4th period teacher has to rush to Spanish class.

News About Box Tops

LEAP Families,

Please put your Box Tops in the Wallace’s mailbox next Wednesday, October 15, or Friday, October 17.

About Box Tops News

Send your Box Tops to school by mid-October so your coordinator can submit them by October 31st

Every year, Box Tops has two submission deadlines – at the end of October and the end of February. Your school’s coordinator is preparing to send in all the Box Tops your school has received since last March to meet the first submission deadline on October 31.

Now is the time to gather up all those Box Tops you’ve been saving and put them together to send to your school! If you’ve asked any friends or family members to help you collect Box Tops, ask them for their Box Tops too and thank them for helping to make a difference.

When you are gathering your Box Tops, it will help your coordinator if you ‘”bundle” them in groups of 10, 25, or 50. You can also use Box Tops collection sheets to count and organize your Box Tops.

Even if you only have a few, it’s important to send them in! Remember, each Box Top is worth 10¢ to your school – and that adds up fast when every family participates! If you want to know how to save more Box Tops in the future, see the list of Participating Products and All About Box Tops pages.

Are You Registered to Vote?

Generation Joshua

Make Sure You Are Registered to Vote

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:

As you know, the election is one month away. We have been blessed with the right to make our voices heard by voting our values here in America. It is our duty, however, to act responsibly with our vote. Many states close voter registration starting one month out from when the polls open. Homeschooling parents need to make sure they are registered to vote. If you have not registered, contact your state election office. If you have moved recently, you should register with your new address. We also encourage you to remind any homeschool graduates who may have recently reached voting age.

Another way we make our voices heard as homeschoolers is Generation Joshua’s Student Action Teams. If you have students who are interested in working on a pro-homeschool candidate’s campaign, they can sign up at GenerationJoshua.org.

John Adams said, “The duty is ours, the results are God’s.” Register to make your voice heard today!

Sincerely,

Mike Smith
HSLDA President
